How to replace camshaft sensor (pulse generator) on a BMW E46 320d (2001).?

It’s a M47 engine, the 2 liter diesel 100 kw.

As far as I know, the camshaft position sensor, or pulse generator, is located right next to the oil cap, but I can’t see it. I removed the engine covers and nothing. Is it located somewhere else, or do I have to remove some more parts?

Yes you do. My only suggestion would be to remove the valve cover and inspect the pickup wheels on the front of the cam gears for the camshaft sensors. make sure they aren’t loose. this would normally set a “plausibility” fault so its hard to say if this could be the cause without seeing the specific fault codes that you have. Also I would be curious to see if both faults returned or just 1 fault.

In short they are both about the same brightness great day and nighttime visibility and the installation is nearly identical for both kits. Here are the other advantages/disadvantages. CCFL Positives. Lower price than Led. Consistent ring of light without breaks. Great brightness although Led is a bit brigher. CCFL Negatives. Does not work well under 40 degrees F. Ballasts / connectors are sensitive to moisture. Glass bulb which may burn out over time. Led Positives. Works in all weather conditions (great for cold climates). No ballasts / less connectors for better reliability. Does not burn out over time. Slightly brighter than CCFL technology. Led Negatives. Higher cost. Tiny breaks between Leds giving the halo a choppy look up close but from a distance it it very good. For Led kits we currently offer kits from 2 manufacturers we have the NEW Weisslicht halo rings and the Mycarr 81 Led kit. The differences between the WeissLicht and MyCarr Led kits are as follows:. Ring Size: The WeissLicht Led kit is the first kit on the market for E46 using any technology to utilize two different sized rings. A standardsized ring is used on the halogen light while a standardsized ring is used on the Xenon light. This provides a much nicer more integrated look when off. The MyCarr kit uses the same (smaller) sized ring for all four lights. For cars with allHalogen headlights we have a kit that features the larger sized ring for all four lights.
